pre-op information

  • Before having a general anaesthetic the following is important for your safety and comfort.
  • Take nothing to eat or drink, not even a sip of water or chewing gum for 6 hours before the time of your surgery.
  • You should be prepared to remain at the clinic or hospital for at least two hours after your anaesthetic.  In some cases an overnight stay may be necessary.
  • You should not drive a vehicle or operate any machinery for 24 hours following anaesthesia as some of the drugs prescribed post-operatively can lead to drowsiness and impaired function.
  • Should you develop an illness such as a cold, a sore throat or any other upset between now and the proposed surgery, please inform us at once.
  • Limit your smoking for 24 hours preceding your surgery.
  • Please inform your surgeon and anaesthetist of any medications taken.
  • Contact lenses, jewellery and dentures must be removed before surgery.
  • Do not wear lipstick, excessive makeup or nail polish on the day of surgery.
  • All patients under 18 must have the written consent of a parent or legal guardian for an anaesthetic or operation.
  • No responsibility can be accepted for the loss of money or valuables, so please keep these to a minimum.
